Name the Pet

This girl is a babe and her music is jumpin'. Hanna is from Scandinavia and makes music under the name "Name the Pet". Hear the music here.
Even better watch this video.

FTR:
Who is Name the Pet?

NTP: A little brat who discovered that by putting all of your energy into making music and clubbing you can both cure your anxiety and mend your broken heart.

FTR: Tell us a little bit about how the project started.

NTP: I've always been a quite creative person, I was terrible at school and just made stuff all the time instead. As a 15 year old I was scouted for a jazz school and got into singing. Then I moved to London and started clubbing. I guess the project has sort of been ongoing since I was born, it doesn't really matter what kind of music I make, the influences are always quite visible.

FTR: Do you collaborate with other musicians on the music?

NTP: Yes, I rarely produce my own stuff. Sunshine was produced by Anthony Whiting (produced some M.I.A stuff for Arular), he produced a few tracks for the album, I also work with The Sound of Arrows a lot and some other nice people.

FTR: We thought the video for "Get on the Bus" was fantastic. The cinematography, the color schemes, and the editing were really dope. Can you tell us a little bit about the director(s) and what it was like making it?

NTP: The directors are wicked people! One of them is called Fredrik Skogkvist, he's a fashion photographer who've I known for like two years now. I don't know what I can tell you without revealing his video making secrets but I can tell you that it took 7 hours to make, the only break we had was a 20 minute lunch break and that I just a week earlier had removed the cast from my broken arm !

FTR: You have great style. What is your favorite place to pick up new clothes?

NTP: My summer house. Everyone in my family dumps their old shirts and jeans there and for me it's just a treasure. The clothes are perfectly worn in and they're all from like the 90's and just suits me perfectly.

FTR: If space travel was affordable would you go?

NTP: No.

FTR: Will you always live in Stockholm, Sweden or do you plan on relocating?

NTP: I work a lot with London people, and I quite often feel a strong need to move back there. I've also reconsidered Paris and NY... so yeah, I guess I plan on moving, I don't like being in the same town for too long, I get bored easily.

FTR: What are your plans for Name the Pet?

NTP: The states.

FTR: Would Name the Pet come to L.A. for a show?

NTP: Definitely. I've heard you got great icecream over there :)

140 m.p.h. through Paris

On an August morning in 1978, French Filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, A professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris early in the morning. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 min, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground...

Black Light Flash Light

Check out our interview with Ben from Black Light Flash Light. He was kind enough to take some time talk to FUTURE. Check out his music here...

FUTURE: Who is Black Light Flash Light?
Ben: Black Light Flash Light is the project of a 19 year old student. Making music is what keeps me going and I can only hope that my music can bring as much joy as making it brings me.

FUTURE: How do you make your music?
Ben: I make everything with a program called Reason, and most of my sampling is done in Pro Tools.

FUTURE: Is the music created live for the audience or is it pre-programmed loops?
Ben: In the future, I hope to be able to play my music live, and add more of a live feel to my tracks. But for now, it is all preprogrammed.

FUTURE: What inspires you? I hear some 80s film and tv influence in your music.
Ben: I get my inspiration from different emotions. It's interesting for me to hear how my music reflects how I feel at different points in time. I'm trying to add more of a heart to my music in the future.

FUTURE: We hope you come to L.A. Do you plan on touring and playing your music for people?
Ben: As of right now, touring would be difficult because of school, but hopefully if all goes well I will be playing a few shows around my area sometime soon.

FUTURE: Do you have any other creative projects outside of music we should know about?
Ben: I recently decided on creating a new project and just finished one of the first tracks today. I'm going to keep working on new tracks, and I'm going to try to get stuff going by the end of the summer. It's a lot different than my current project. It will definitely reach a different audience. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, so I'll just let it speak for itself when I release it.

FUTURE: Favorite music groups you are into right now...
Ben: Recently I have been listening to a lot of Flying Lotus, Mr. Oizo, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Royksopp, and Deadmau5. My musical taste has definitely been swaying from electroclash scene, and I'm starting to branch out a lot more, and I can only hope that my music begins to reflect that.

FUTURE: What's next for Black Light Flashlight?
Ben: As of right now, I have a remix coming out on vinyl for Streetlife DJ's which should be out by the end of June. The track is entitled "Yo! Jay" and I'm really excited for the release. Also I plan on releasing a 2 track EP by sometime around september if all goes accordingly. After that, I am still unsure of the future of Black Light Flash Light. I guess I will just wait and see how my new project goes, and we will just go from there.
